About Us
Who we are
Slovenské vzdelávacie centrum – South Manchester (SVCSM) is a UK-registered charity dedicated to preserving and promoting the Slovak language, culture, and traditions, while also supporting Slovak families and individuals living in the UK.
Founded by a team of qualified educators with experience in both the UK and Slovak education systems, our centre officially opened in September 2024. Since then, we have proudly become a member of ASSC-UK (Association of Slovak Schools and Communities UK), ACSSUK (Association of Czech and Slovak Schools in the United Kingdom), and BCSA (British Czech & Slovak Association), and we are recognised and supported by USZZ – Úrad pre Slovákov žijúcich v zahraničí.
At SVCSM, we believe that language and culture go hand in hand. Every Saturday, we run Slovak language lessons for children and adults, enriched with cultural activities, creative workshops, and community events. Beyond teaching, we provide guidance for families, support with komisionálne skúšky (for children also enrolled in Slovak schools), and opportunities for adults to connect through workshops, social gatherings, and networking.
All our teachers and volunteers are DBS-checked and committed to making SVCSM a safe, welcoming, and inspiring space. While our focus is on Slovak culture and language, we warmly welcome everyone who wishes to learn, connect, and be part of our community.

Our Story
Slovenské vzdelávacie centrum South Manchester (SVCSM) began as a small group of Slovak friends with children who wanted to create a space where families like ours could come together. As several of us mums work in the UK education sector, we understood how important it was for children growing up abroad to stay connected to their Slovak language, culture and identity.
What started as a shared idea has grown into a welcoming Saturday school and cultural hub in Sale, Trafford. Today, we offer Slovak language education for children and adults, organise cultural events and workshops, and create opportunities for families to meet, build friendships and feel at home.
Our lessons combine language learning with creativity, traditions and shared experiences, helping children develop confidence in Slovak while being proud of their heritage. Alongside education, we believe strongly in community — supporting parents, celebrating Slovak customs, and building bridges between cultures.
SVCSM is run with care, passion and the support of volunteers, families and the wider community who share the same goal: keeping the Slovak language and culture alive for the next generation.
